Wuhan sees surge in permanent resident population

The number of permanent residents in Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province, stood at 13.6489 million at the end of 2021, 1.2012 million more than the figure at the end of 2020, according to statistics jointly released by Wuhan Municipal Bureau of Statistics and Wuhan Investigation Team of National Bureau of Statistics on April 2.


At the end of 2021, the urban population in the city reached over 11.54 million, accounting for 84.56 percent of the city’s total permanent population. The registered population was 9.341 million, and the number of newborns in the city stood at 82,000, a birth rate of 8.97 thousandths.


Ye Qing, deputy director of Hubei Provincial Statistics Bureau, viewed that the stable COVID-19 situation, recovered economy, more graduates who chose to stay, more returned personnel from coastal areas, influx of talents, as well as the development of new trade models that were generated from e-commerce and China-Europe freight trains helped the population growth in the city. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
