Dragon Boat Festival to be celebrated in Zigui County, Qu Yuan's hometown
Celebrations for the 2022 Dragon Boat Festival are slated for June 2 in Zigui County of Hubei Province, Qu Yuan’s hometown, the Information Office of Hubei Provincial People's Government announced on May 25, 2022.
The festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is traditionally celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month on Chinese lunar calendar. It falls on June 3 this year.
Co-hosted by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the People's Government of Hubei Province, the event includes an opening ceremony, keynote speeches, lectures and a forum, in both online and offline forms.
In September 2009, the Dragon Boat Festival was formally inscribed into UNESCO's World Intangible Cultural Heritage List, becoming the first Chinese festival to be included. And since 2010, the celebrations have been held for six editions in Zigui County. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
