Hubei sends agricultural experts to aid Kiribati
Chen Haiyan, an animal husbandry expert in Qianjiang City, Hubei Province, received an e-mail asking how to solve the problem of sudden increase of pig body temperature from Kiribati.
She immediately replied to the email. These international exchanges are commonplace for her.
In August this year, She and her colleagues just completed a two-year aid mission to Kiribati, Chen told reporters on December 6, adding that the friendship between Hubei and Kiribati will continue.
On September 27, 2019, China and Kiribati resumed diplomatic relations. As a big province of agriculture, Hubei undertook the first batch of agricultural and fishery assistance to Kiribati.
In early 2020, Hubei dispatched six experts, including Chen Haiyan, to Kiribati. After arrival, they decided to cultivate vegetables, which were rare to be seen at Kiribati people’s table.
After a month's analysis, the experts selected the appropriate plant varieties and started experiment. A year later, 29 varieties of vegetables made their debut in the country for the first time, including bark, dairy products and radishes.
Besides planting vegetables, the experts also offered advice on animal husbandry, fishery and agricultural machinery. They wrote an agricultural survey report of 90,000 words to help promote the agriculture in Kiribati.
Based on agricultural support, Hubei experts have established profound friendship with Kiribati people.
