Hubei entered the plum rain season starting from June 16, with soggy and muggy days ahead.

The plum rain season is caused by warm air from the western Pacific, which results in a rain belt moving around the Yangtze Rive Delta region in June and July. As these months are the ripening period of plums, it is so called plum rain season.

From June 16 to 24, three rounds of heavy rainfalls are expected to sweep across the province with torrential rains in some areas, accompanied by short-term strong precipitation, thunderstorms and winds.

Hubei meteorological service reminded that focus should be on preventing secondary disasters such as flash floods, geological disasters, and urban waterlogging that may be triggered by heavy rainfalls. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
