Xianning, a city of Hubei Province, won the award at the 6th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation held on Thursday in Guangzhou.

A total of 274 innovative projects from 193 cities and local governments in 54 countries participated in the event. Five cities - Xianning of China, Kampala of Uganda, Gwangju of the Republic of Korea, Halandri of Greece and Bogotá of Colombia - won the awards this year.

Xianning became the fourth Chinese city to win the award after Hangzhou, Wuhan and Chongqing.

The Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation is the first international award named after a Chinese city under the framework of world cities and local governments. Since 2012, it has been held for six editions, with the aim of pushing innovative practices in urban governance by cities and governments around the world. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Zhang Yawei）
