Farmers in Xiangzhou district of Xiangyang, Hubei province, have been busy harvesting wheat in recent days on 1,525,000 mu (101,667 hectares) of farmland.
Since the district's large-scale wheat harvest began on May 23, Xiangzhou district's agriculture and rural affairs bureau has sent over 6,000 large combine harvesters to help reap the wheat.
Meanwhile, agricultural experts from the city and district are busy conducting on-site measurements of the wheat yield. They also provide guidance to farmers on selecting high-efficiency, low-loss, and high-performance agricultural machinery and equipment to improve harvesting efficiency and reduce crop losses.
According to Yang Zhaonan, an agronomist at the district's agricultural technology promotion center, a newly machine-harvested wheat field of 3.5 mu yielded 1,440 kilograms of fresh wheat. Considering the wheat's moisture content, the actual yield per mu is calculated to be 403.39 kg.
Bai Jianfeng, a large-scale grain grower in the district's Zhangjiaji township, said he had achieved precision management standards in his fields this year through digital data collection applications.
"By collecting and applying data on seedling growth, real-time weather conditions, soil moisture status, and pest and disease situation, agricultural production has become more precise and scientific," he said.
