Three new metro lines - Line 5, Line 16 and the second phase of Line 6 - opened to traffic on Dec. 26 in Wuhan, capital city of Hubei Province.
Stretching 35.1 kilometers, Line 5 is the city’s first self-driving metro line. It runs in parallel with the Yangtze River, connecting the Wuchang, Qingshan, Hongshan and Jiangxia districts.
Dubbed the “fastest” metro line in the city, Line 16 boasts a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour. It runs through Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone and several other key areas in Hannan District, which enables it to provide support for the city’s construction of Auto Valley. With three bridges on its way, it can also give passengers a picturesque scenery of the Yangtze River.
The second phase of Line 6 links up with its first phase project and becomes another metro line running across the Yangtze River in the city.
So far, the city has seen the number of its metro lines in operation amount to 11, with 282 in-using stations and a total operating mileage of 435 kilometers. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
