Wuhan Tianhe Airport handles record cargo, mail volume in 2021
The Wuhan Tianhe International Airport handled cargo and mail throughput of 316,000 tons in 2021, an increase of 29.9 percent compared with 2019, initial data showed on Jan. 4, 2022.
Out of total, the volume of international (regional) mail and cargo more than doubled from 2019 to reach 145,700 tons. And the total import and export volume made by cross-border e-commerce posed an excess of 33-time rise from the same period.
In 2021, the airport has opened six new international (regional) cargo routes to link Wuhan with Delhi, Mumbai, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Mexico City and Chennai, increased regular routes from two in 2019 to 16, enriched the varieties of goods, and newly added five domestic-to-international routes and two cold-chain flights from Wuhan to Xichang and Nanning cities.
The airport is expected to resume the airfreight route to Japan and further develop routes for local imports and exports, and well-operate the existing international (regional) airfreight routes to Europe, America, Africa and Southeast Asia. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
