5 ports of Wuhan Port to open for int'l business
On Aug. 21, Wang Kaijie, an officer of the Hankou Immigration Inspection Station, wearing protective clothing, was skillfully operating at the International Trade Single Window to handle the entry inspection formalities for "Huahang Hanya No. 2" which was loaded with 232 containers.
This was just one of the routine services provided by the inspection station, but it has a special significance for the Wuhan Port.
On Aug. 21, the Hankou Immigration Inspection Station announced that Wuhan Port's five ports — Huashan, Hannan, Jinkou, Huangzhou, and Ezhou — will be open for international business by the end of this year.
Previously, the State Council approved the five ports to be open for international business. Therefore, Wuhan Port is gradually expanding to cover the Wuhan-Ezhou-Huangshi-Huanggang Metropolitan Area for international business.
According to Zhu Jian, vice chief of the Hankou Immigration Inspection Station, by Aug. 5, 2022, Huashan, Hannan, Jinkou, and Huangzhou ports had already passed the pre-acceptance check conducted by the Hubei Office of Port Administration and will apply for the acceptance check by the National Office of Port Administration. It is expected that these ports will be open for international business by the end of this year.
On Aug. 21, 1992, Wuhan welcomed the first foreign ship since the founding of the People's Republic of China, which meant the beginning of a new chapter in the opening-up of the Wuhan Port.
In the past 30 years, the international business of direct routes between Wuhan and other countries has been continuously increasing whereby the number of ships sailing on international routes tops all the other ports in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
