New base of Cummins' East Asia R&D Center put into operation in Wuhan
The new base of Cummins' East Asia R&D Center, located in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), Wuhan, was put into operation on November 25, 2022.
Cummins is the world's largest independent diesel engine manufacturer, with the industry's largest power range of diesel and natural gas engine line. Its products are widely used in commercial vehicles such as light trucks and heavy trucks.
Covering an area of about 78,000 square meters, the new base is Cummins' largest technology center outside the United States. It is three times larger than the company’s original R&D center. With the number of benches increasing to 28, it is committed to research and development of low-carbon and zero-carbon products, in a bid to promote the green transformation of automobile industry.
Cheng Xiaobei, a professor from the School of Energy and Power Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, said that Cummins have been attaching great importance to cooperation with universities and research institutes. After the new base being operational, it can undertake experiment and design, and also can function as a platform to gather and cultivate a group of high-level professionals of energy and power engineering, which will give impetus to the high-quality development of Hubei’s automobile industry.
