Wuhan sees 5.0 pct GDP growth in H1

The gross domestic product (GDP) of Hubei’s capital city Wuhan totaled 950.333 billion yuan in the first half (H1) of 2023, marking a 5.0-percent growth year on year and 0.5-percentage points higher than last quarter, according to local authorities.


Wuhan ranked the ninth in the country by GDP during the period.


Statistics showed that the added value of industries above designated size in the city witnessed an expansion of 2.1 percent from last year’s same period.


Out of 36 industry categories, 19 achieved positive growth, including 11 with double-digit growth.


The output of main products like industrial robots and 3D printing equipment expanded by 55.2 percent and 18.8 percent, respectively.


In the first half of this year, Wuhan’s fixed-asset investment increased by 5.3 percent, infrastructure investment and service industry investment respectively rose by 3.1 percent and 7.1 percent year on year.


Driven by an array of measures to boost consumption, Wuhan also saw its total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to 346.878 billion yuan over the first six months, with a year-on-year growth of 9.0 percent and 1.1 percentage points higher than last quarter. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
