Wuhan sees surge in China-Europe freight train trips in 2023

Wuhan, Hubei’s capital city, has handled 848 China-Europe freight train trips in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 57.6 percent, according to local railway authorities.


Out of total, the number of inbound trips reached 567 which was double the amount of inbound trips, showing strong demand of Hubei’s consumer market for European products.


In 2023, the goods exported by China-Europe (Wuhan) freight trains expanded from traditional optoelectronic products, machinery and equipment, auto parts and clothing to cosmetics, equipment for foreign aid projects, as well as crops and crop by-products. The imported products added milk, flour and beer from Belarus, Russia and Türkiye.


Since 2014, Wuhan has totally handled 3,462 China-Europe freight train trips, with 52 regular routes launched to connect 115 cities in 40 countries across Eurasia. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
