Intercity autonomous driving bus route put into operation in Wuhan New City
An autonomous driving bus route shuttling between Wuhan and Ezhou started operations on Wednesday in Wuhan New City.
The autonomous driving bus route is the first one of its kind powered by vehicle-road coordination technology in the city.
This 9.8-kilometer bus line features 13 bus stations and winds through schools, industrial parks, residential compounds and metro stations, free of charge for all citizens in the first year of operation.
Autonomous driving buses achieve holographic sensing of the road network through smart sensing devices such as high-definition cameras and radars along the roads. The vehicle-road coordination technology also effectively improves operational safety for the vehicles.
Each of these buses still has a human supervisor, who would immediately take over the vehicle in case of emergency to further ensure passenger safety. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Zhang Yawei)
