Two top universities in Hubei Province - Wuhan University (WHU) and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) - remained among the top 200 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, which were released on Thursday.

Wuhan University ranked 122nd, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology ranked 176th. A total of 97 universities from the Chinese mainland made the list, comparing to 2,191 colleges and universities in 115 countries and territories from around the globe.

Times Higher Education measures colleges and universities based on 18 key performance indicators in five categories, including teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook. (en.hubei.gov.cn by Zhang Yawei）
